Streaming Fundamentals aims to provide you with a solid foundation of knowledge in order to help you stream. Whether you have just started to consider the idea of streaming or you have been doing it for quite some time, this series should be beneficial to you. Each individual episode covers a specific topic that will be tackled as objectively as possible, while striving to use a range of sources and factual references rather than just a singular opinion.
Anyone can dive in and start broadcasting their antics, but the sheer number of streamers nowadays can make it harder for those who are just getting started to stand out from the crowd. Whilst Streaming Fundamentals cannot provide you with guaranteed success, the series aims to get you to think about streaming in a more deliberate manner than you may have done previously.
Pop-Quiz: Did you know that live video game streaming began as an accident?
Justin.tv began life in 2007 as an all-hours video live-stream of Justin Kan‘s life. Later that year, Justin.tv opened up to the the public so others could live-stream to different channels under a variety of topics. One particular topic — gaming — accounted for a significantly large portion of the audience, so much so that by 2011 the gaming aspect became a new service entirely: Twitch.tv. In 2014, this ‘accident’ was bought by Amazon for the tidy sum of $970 million!
Fast-forward to 2017 and just about anybody can stream almost anything they want within reason (common sense applies). From video games to social eating, reading books or creating artistic masterpieces, live-streaming is here to stay. Currently there are hundreds of millions of users either creating or consuming live-streamed content each and every month.
Streaming Fundamentals: Prologue
A prologue is defined as “an opening to a story that establishes the context and gives background details.” You might think that this is unnecessary, but before we dive right into the subject at hand, I feel that we need to discuss what this series ‘is‘ and what it ‘is not‘.
This prologue gives you an idea of what to expect from future episodes, as well as providing you with a brief outline of what will make this series different from the hundreds of ‘streaming tutorials’ that are floating around on the internet.
I hope you enjoy watching this series, as I know I will enjoy recording it.
AcuteJungle66 has been dabbling with tech ever since he tried improving the tape deck of his Commodore 64 back in the ’80s. Tech and Gaming have both been interests of his for several decades, but he also enjoys the great outdoors as often as he can.
As a proud Military Veteran who spent much of his life on 3 different continents, he is quite content being back home in Scotland; where he enjoys a much ‘quieter’ life these days.
