I’ve always said that there isn’t enough dodgeball in video game format, and it looks like for once someone has listened to me. Developer Fun Punch Games and indie publisher Playdius have announced that they will be launching Strikers Edge on PlayStation 4 [PSN] and Steam in less than 3 weeks in North America, on January 30! Just enough time to bust out your highschool gym shorts and do some lunges. European ball-dodgers won’t have to wait long though, as they will be seeing their release the following day on January 31.
Strikers Edge isn’t your grandfather’s dodgeball. The game features eight different warriors spanning across the annals of history, ready to bring their own era-specific specialties into the fray. The game’s mechanics allow you to dodge, take cover, aim, and unleash absolutely scorching devastation in this game of medieval dodgeball. Once you’ve tested your mettle against AI opponents, you can challenge a friend to local competitive battles. I’m stoked to see that included in this game, as couch co-op needs to be brought back in 2018, and I can’t think of a better way than pummeling my friends’ faces in some good ol’ fashioned D-Ball.
Steam users will have access to a special Twitch mode, which will allow Streamers to incorporate their communities into the chaos! One Streamer Mode has been activated and linked, players can invite their audiences to mess with the game by choosing from a variety of modifiers and perks that are sure to spice up the gameplay. As a streamer constantly looking for ways to involve my community in the games that I’m playing, I can not underscore how fantastic of an addition this is. It’s how to say how direct of an affect the audience will have, but being able to give your Streamer perks [or possibly put them at a disadvantage] is regardless a fun integration that is sure to delight many on Twitch.
Fun Punch Games have also announced they will be holding a special tournament during their last Steam Open Beta session, where player will be able to challenge the developers! The more exciting part? The Beta testers’ win ratio will determine the release promotion that Strikers Edge will receive when it officially launches on Steam on January 30, 2018. in other words, the more players who kick the developers’ butts, the cheaper the game will be at launch!
Check out the official Strikers Edge page to find out more about how to participate!
